We generally sing ‘popular’ songs in harmony, with no requirement to read music. The sessions are really relaxed and really fun. There are no auditions and no one has to sing on their own!

Jaquie believes that singing in a choir should be accessible to everyone, whether they have sung before or not, or have little or no experience. Reading music is not necessary, just a love of music, singing and being part of a group. The choir is led in a relaxed, enthusiastic and friendly style and Jaquie brings out the best in all the choirs that she works with. She helps people build their self confidence and works hard to create a happy safe and enjoyable singing experience.

Our name ‘Hygge’ - pronounced Hooga, is a Danish word which means a feeling of wellbeing, joy and happiness. This is how many of the choir have described our group and I think it just about sums it up perfectly...

Choir Sessions and Prices

We rehearse every Thursday from 7.15 pm - 8.45 pm at the Stratford St Mary Institute Hall, The Row, Higham Road, Stratford St. Mary, Colchester, CO7 6JU.

If you’d like to give us a try your first session is absolutely FREE!

Each session thereafter is £6 (paid in blocks of 5,6 or 7 weeks).

The blocks fall roughly in line with school half terms. We will not break for half terms but will have 2 weeks off at Christmas, Easter and a month or so off in the Summer. I realise that members do not want to pay for sessions missed due to holidays, so everyone can use up to 3 ‘Holiday Weeks’ over 12 months. Please let me know in advance, before you pay for a block if you would like to use a ‘Holiday Week’.

The Institute Hall is a great space with plenty of parking. It’s easily accessible from Colchester, Ipswich and surrounding villages, just off the A12. You are welcome to arrive at 7pm if you fancy a cuppa and a chat before we start at 7.15. I’m sure we may frequent the nearby pubs afterwards too.
